WINTER TUNES FOR CITY WALKS

Around this time of year Christmas markets and the smell of hot wine punch become ubiquitous about the city, and it is the earnest attempt of some to avoid these gatherings of people and their attempts of summoning some artificial pre-Christmas spirit at all cost. Instead, a few prefer digging out those bitter-sweet tunes that fit their perception of the holiday season and load their mp3 players with them, creating an antithetical soundtrack to a town that’s full of mellow, pre-Christmas glory. I’d like to share some of mine with you:

The first is an older track by composer Max Richter, who released an experimental album in 2008 which is definitely worth a closer look. The embedded video for “The Nature Of Daylight” was made by a fan.

Then there’s the sentimental music of an artist by the name of Bark Cat Bark. We fortunately encountered him in the Myspace realm while running this blog. He recently added new tracks to his Myspace account and there is an album release scheduled for 01/09.

The last one is Bugge Wesseltoft. A few years back, when the vibes of Vienna Dub were finally disappearing, I stumbled upon Bugge Wesseltoft. Back then he created jazz tracks with electronics that stood out from the hundreds of jazz and lounge tagged music releases popular in those days. Finally there is a new solo album release coming up: “Playing will be out early next year.”
