Once again the great folks at Said The Gramophone have dug out some treasure: Meursault, a four piece band from Edinburgh/Scotland, consisting only of multiinstrumentalists. I guess that’s what makes their songs so unpredictable; “The Furnace” starts off with electronic beats which are after a few bars accompanied by some distorted noise and a finger-picked banjo, until the haunting voice comes in with the right appreciation for pathos and emotion. Another song sounds like a lunatic campfire singalong. Meursault’s style and versatileness reminds me a bit of Animal Collective or Xiu Xiu. Which means: They’re great!
